Canary Wharf inveils Its “Green Spine” in partnership with Eden Project

Canary Wharf, in collaboration with the Eden Project, has unveiled its new “green spine” at the heart of the Docklands. This ambitious project, named Eden Dock, transforms the area into a true urban oasis, featuring floating islands and moss-covered humanoid sculptures.

A haven of biodiversity

Eden Dock aims to enhance the region’s biodiversity while providing a wellness space for residents, workers, and visitors. The floating gardens and walkways allow people to explore unique aquatic habitats, home to wading birds, waterfowl and songbirds, as well as bees, eels, and rare plant species not commonly seen in London.

A collaborative effort

The development of this project was led by Howells, with contributions from landscape designer HTA, engineer Arup, and the Canal and River Trust. Together, they have created a space that not only enriches local biodiversity but also offers a calming and revitalizing environment for everyone.

Positive impact

Canary Wharf stated: “In addition to enhancing the region’s biodiversity, Eden Dock improves the well-being of those who work, live, and visit the area by providing access to beautiful waterfront spaces and nature like never before.” This innovative project marks a significant step in transforming the Docklands into a sustainable and welcoming urban space. With Eden Dock, Canary Wharf and the Eden Project are paving the way for a greener and more harmonious future. This exemplary project demonstrates how urban development and nature can coexist for the benefit of all, creating spaces where biodiversity and human well-being thrive together.
