Boxing Day : Arsenal stays in the title race

Arsenal secured a vital 1-0 home win against Ipswich Town, keeping their title hopes alive as they chase Liverpool. This victory was essential for the Gunners, who were fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind Liverpool before the match. The title race remains uncertain, especially given Arsenal’s past struggles during this period of the season.

Dominating the early stages

Despite a convincing 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on December 21, Bukayo Saka’s injury was a concern for Mikel Arteta. Facing Ipswich, who had lost 4-0 to Newcastle the previous weekend, Arsenal needed a win. Ipswich, better on the road than at home, hadn’t won at Arsenal since 1979, and that streak continued tonight.

Kai Havertz breaks the deadlock

Arsenal dominated possession early on, holding the ball for 91% of the first 20 minutes. The Gunners took the lead through Kai Havertz, who finished off a fine pass from Leandro Trossard, playing in place of Bukayo Saka (23rd minute, 1-0). Gabriel Jesus had a chance to double the lead in the 35th minute, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Controlled second half

In the second half, Arsenal continued to press for a second goal. Gabriel Jesus came close from a corner, but his effort just missed the right post (63rd minute). Martin Odegaard also had a notable individual effort, but his shot to the top right corner was saved by Arijanet Muric (74th minute). The score remained 1-0 until the final whistle.

Arsenal climbs the podium

This win moves Mikel Arteta’s men up to second place in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Liverpool. Meanwhile, Ipswich Town continues to struggle, sitting 19th with 12 points. The Tractor Boys will need to secure points in their upcoming matches against Chelsea and Fulham to avoid further slipping into the relegation zone.

Boxing Day Chelsea falls at Stamford Bridge

There was a sensation at Stamford Bridge this Boxing Day. Chelsea, second in the league, hosted Fulham, who had enjoyed a strong first half of the season.

From the outset, the Cottagers showed their determination, particularly through the energetic play of Alex Iwobi on the left flank. Despite Fulham’s resistance, the Blues took the lead thanks to Cole Palmer. Found in the center, the attacking midfielder evaded his markers and placed a precise shot into Bernd Leno’s bottom corner (1-0, 16th minute). This goal brought some calm to Enzo Maresca’s men.

Dominance without reward

Cole Palmer continued to dazzle near the opposition’s box, outmaneuvering Fulham players with elegant dribbles. However, Chelsea failed to extend their lead. Fulham’s counter-attacks, led by Alex Iwobi, Andreas Pereira, and Adama Traoré, consistently threatened the Blues’ defense. Eventually, the inevitable happened. In the 82nd minute, Alex Iwobi broke down the flank, outpaced Neto, and crossed to the far post. Timothy Castagne headed the ball back across goal for Harry Wilson to score from close range (1-1).

A catastrophic end to the match

The worst was yet to come for Chelsea. In stoppage time, Sasa Lukic led a fatal counter-attack and set up Rodrigo Muniz at the penalty spot. The striker made no mistake, beating Robert Sanchez (1-2, 90+5th minute). This defeat leaves Chelsea four points behind Liverpool, who have two games in hand. It’s often said that the Premier League can’t be won on Boxing Day, but it can be lost. This might be what happened to Chelsea on Thursday.

Defeat with serious consequences

This home defeat is a significant blow for Chelsea, whose title hopes are slipping further away. The Blues will need to quickly regroup to stay in the race at the top of the Premier League. Fulham, on the other hand, continues to impress and surprise this season.

Arsenal reclaims their spot on the podium

After being knocked off the Premier League podium by Nottingham Forest’s victory, Arsenal (4th) needed a win against Crystal Palace to reclaim their third place. The Eagles (15th), unbeaten in the Premier League since November 9th, had recently lost to Arsenal in the League Cup, with Gabriel Jesus scoring a hat-trick. This match was crucial for both teams.

Gabriel Jesus strikes first

In the opening minutes, Gabriel Jesus set the tone for his teammates by scoring after a precise cross from Gabriel (6th minute, 0-1). The former Manchester City player netted his first league goal of the season, marking the start of a memorable evening for the Gunners.

Immediate response from Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace quickly responded. Ismaïla Sarr gave the Eagles hope by equalizing with a superb right-footed strike (11th minute, 1-1). This goal energized Crystal Palace, but their joy was short-lived. Just minutes after the equalizer, Gabriel Jesus struck again. Assisted by a pinpoint pass from Martin Odegaard, the Brazilian beat Dean Henderson to restore Arsenal’s lead (14th minute, 1-2). This second goal allowed the Gunners to regain control of the match.

Kai Havertz extends the lead

Before halftime, Kai Havertz added a third goal for Arsenal, capitalizing on Crystal Palace’s disorganized defense (38th minute, 1-3). This goal gave the Gunners a comfortable lead heading into the break.

A one-sided second half

In the second half, Arsenal continued to dominate. Gabriel Martinelli scored the Gunners’ fourth goal after a beautiful team play (60th minute, 1-4). Crystal Palace seemed unable to cope with the relentless pressure from Mikel Arteta’s men. To cap it all off, Declan Rice scored Arsenal’s fifth and final goal late in the match (85th minute, 1-5).

Football Arsenal puts its trust in Jesus

Arsenal Triumphs Over Crystal Palace with a Hat-Trick from Gabriel Jesus destipe a challenging start for the gunners

The match began chaotically for Arsenal. In the opening minutes, Jakub Kiwior failed to control a long pass, allowing Jean-Philippe Mateta to charge towards the goal and beat David Raya. Crystal Palace took the lead and maintained it until halftime, forcing Mikel Arteta to make strategic changes.

Gabriel Jesus takes charge

At the start of the second half, Mikel Arteta brought on Martin Odegaard and William Saliba, but it was Gabriel Jesus who made the difference. Assisted by Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus equalized with a superb finish against Dean Henderson. Minutes later, he scored again, this time from a pass by Bukayo Saka.

Decisive hat-trick

Gabriel Jesus completed his hat-trick shortly after. Completely free on the halfway line, he was spotted by Martin Odegaard and ran half the length of the pitch before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Despite a late header from Eddie Nketiah, the Gunners held on to win 3-2, securing their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Gabriel Jesus once again proved his importance to Arsenal, delivering an exceptional hat-trick and securing his team’s victory in a thrilling match.

Football Chelsea narrows the gap with Liverpool after beating Brentford

Chelsea had a golden opportunity to close in on Liverpool by reducing the gap to just two points, though with an extra game played. Facing a determined Brentford side, currently 10th in the league, the Blues needed a strong performance.

Blues secure vital win to keep title hopes alive

The breakthrough came just before halftime when Marc Cucurella found the net (43′). Chelsea then doubled their lead late in the match with a goal from Nicolas Jackson, set up by Enzo Fernandez (80′). Despite a late goal from Bryan Mbeumo for Brentford (90′), Chelsea held on for a 2-1 victory. This win brings Chelsea within two points of Liverpool, who have a game in hand, while Brentford slips to 11th place.

Chelsea’s impressive form continues

Since the international break at the end of November, Chelsea has been on a remarkable run, winning all five of their Premier League matches and scoring 16 goals in the process, averaging over three goals per game. Enzo Maresca’s team now sits second in the table with 34 points from 16 matches, just two points behind Liverpool. Ce This victory not only keeps Chelsea in the title race but also underscores their excellent form as they continue to challenge Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Football Arsenal stalled by Everton: A missed opportunity

Arsenal failed to capitalize on Liverpool’s dropped points, being held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners remain six points behind Liverpool, having played one more match.

Arsenal lack killer instinct

Arsenal controlled 76% of the possession and took 13 shots, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Everton’s well-organized defense limited Arsenal’s clear-cut chances. The Toffees’ best opportunity came in the sixth minute when Abdoulaye Doucouré’s shot was blocked by Gabriel after he hesitated too long.

Jordan Pickford in top form

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to create significant threats. Martin Ødegaard missed the target several times, and Jordan Pickford made a spectacular reflex save to deny Bukayo Saka early in the second half. Arsenal’s persistent efforts were ultimately fruitless.

Lack of cutting edge

This draw highlights Arsenal’s offensive inefficiency. Without a recognized number nine, the Gunners struggled to convert their chances. Gabriel Jesus, brought on with 20 minutes remaining, failed to score and has now gone 23 Premier League matches without a goal.

Everton’s résilient defense

Everton earned a valuable point with a solid defensive performance. The Toffees had a scare late in the match with a clash between Vitalii Mykolenko and Thomas Partey, but the referee and VAR ruled out a penalty. Everton remains 15th, three points above the relegation zone. This result leaves Arsenal with regrets, missing a chance to close the gap on Liverpool. The Gunners need to find their scoring touch to stay in the title race, while Everton can be pleased with a hard-earned point away from home.

Eyal Sasson : Surface Tension : An exploration of abstraction and Figuration

From November 15, 2024, to January 13, 2025, artist Eyal Sasson presents his exhibition *Surface Tension* in London. Held at 123 Kennington Road, this exhibition explores themes of conflict, detachment, vulnerability, and collapse through a complex interplay of form, color, and surface.

A career dedicated to ambiguity

For over twenty years, Eyal Sasson, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, has been interested in the ambiguity between the mechanical processes of painting and expressive gesture. His recent works focus on the abstract language of form to tell stories of the figure and the body.

Notable series

Among the exhibited works, the series “Lamenting Women” depicts couples in a state of detachment, while *Knockout* attempts to capture the moment of a knockout in boxing, illustrating struggle and collapse through conflicting pictorial marks. Sasson plays with the duality between form and figuration, often inspired by camouflage systems.

Invitation to reflection

Works like “Swept Away By the Current,” “Diver,” and “Shark” place characters in dangerous waters, symbolizing the threat of abstraction. Sasson’s paintings oscillate between saturated and muted color palettes, reflecting a tension between abstraction and figuration without ever completely abandoning the figure.

In brief

The exhibition is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and on Sundays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Visits are also available by appointment. For more information, contact +44.20.7735.8292.

Attendees are invited to wear their blackest attire and immerse themselves in an environment of neon, smoke, and decadence. Icons like Nick Cave and Siouxsie Sioux will join, blending with new followers for an unforgettable night.
