New brighter uniforms for Transport for London staff

Transport for London (TfL) is set to introduce a new range of uniforms for its staff, designed to enhance visibility and comfort. These uniforms, which will be gradually rolled out in the coming weeks, feature larger and brighter TfL logos, making it easier for customers to identify staff, especially in busy stations.

Modern and functional design

The updated design, an evolution of the 2015 Hemingway Design uniforms, includes reflective elements and contrasting colors for improved visibility. The uniforms also come with matching accessories such as hats, scarves, and ties, all adorned with the TfL logo. This update aims to provide better visual contrast, particularly for visually impaired customers.

Focus on comfort and sustainability

Beyond their visual appeal, the new uniforms are designed for optimal comfort. Made from 51% recycled materials, they reflect TfL’s commitment to sustainability. The uniforms are also tailored to help staff experiencing menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes and dry skin, with breathable and non-irritating fabrics.

Gradual rollout across the network

The transition to these new uniforms will take place over 12 months, starting in December 2024. The first teams to adopt the new attire will be those on the London Underground, the Lost Property Office, TfL Visitor Centres, and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Eventually, the entire network, including the Elizabeth line and London Overground, will be outfitted with the new uniforms.

Positive feedback from staff

Brook Randall, a TfL bus station controller, expressed his enthusiasm for the new uniforms, highlighting their comfort and increased visibility in emergencies. Claire Mann, TfL’s Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the improvements in diversity and comfort, ensuring the uniforms meet staff needs at all life stages while honoring TfL’s legacy. With these new uniforms, TfL continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community service, while honoring its rich heritage.
